Breakfast tastes better with your favorite grownup

Donuts with Grownups

Thursday, November 12, 2026
Kindergarten- 2nd Grade- 4th Grade

There is something a little magical about being at school before the regular school day begins. The hallways feel different, breakfast is waiting in the cafeteria, and for one morning your SES student gets to bring one of their favorite people along for the fun. Donuts with Grownups is a free Sheridan Elementary tradition built around something wonderfully simple: sitting down together, sharing breakfast, and getting a little extra time with your favorite Blackhawk before the school day starts. So grab a donut. Pour some coffee. Let your kid proudly show you exactly where they sit, introduce you to twelve people in thirty seconds, and tell you something extremely important while you are halfway through your first sip.

This morning is for them. And for you.

Two Mornings of Donut Magic

We split Donuts with Grownups into two mornings so families have more room to sit, visit and actually enjoy breakfast together without trying to squeeze the entire Sheridan Elementary population into the cafeteria at once.

March 11, 2027 || 1st, 3rd & 5th Grades

6:45–7:30 AM
Sheridan Elementary Cafeteria
FREE for SES families

Doors will open at 6:45 AM. Please do not arrive expecting to sneak in early. We will still be setting out donuts, pouring drinks and convincing ourselves that 6:30 absolutely counts as morning.

What to Expect

Grab a Treat

We’ll have donuts and fruit, plus Starbucks coffee for the grownups and milk and juice donated by Prairie Farms. Breakfast is completely free, so just come hungry and pick your favorite.

Grab a seat

Bring a favorite grownup and settle in together. Moms, dads, grandparents, guardians, aunts, uncles and other special adults are all welcome. This morning is really about giving your SES student a little extra time with someone they love before the school day begins.

Grab a Selfie

Before you head out, stop by the selfie station and get a picture together. Don’t forget to tag us @sheridanelementarypto so we can see how much fun you had! After breakfast, grownups can head out and students will go to the music room for a movie until it’s time for class.

No Tricks Here!

Bring Your Favorite Grownup

Mom. Dad. Grandma. Grandpa. Aunt. Uncle. Guardian. Family friend. Another special adult who makes your kid light up when they walk into the room. That is exactly why we call it Donuts with Grownups. This morning is not about fitting families into one particular mold. It is about giving SES students a chance to bring someone important to them into their school world for a little while. Eat breakfast together. Talk. Laugh. Let them show you around. Give them your attention before backpacks, work, errands and the rest of the day come knocking. For thirty or forty minutes, you get to just be their person.

What’s for Breakfast?

The important stuff. We’ll have donuts, fruit, and and breakfast pastries, along milk and juice generously donated by Prairie Farms. Oh, and Starbucks coffee for the people who understandably require caffeine before holding conversations at 6:45 in the morning (Just me?) .Gluten free Donuts are available upon request. Breakfast is completely free thanks to Sheridan Elementary PTO fundraising throughout the year. We just want families to come enjoy the morning together.

When You Arrive

Families should head to the cafeteria upon entering the school. When parking, please be especially careful to keep all bus lanes clear. Buses are still doing their normal morning shuffle, and we need to make sure they can safely get in and out of the school. Doors will not open until 6:45 AM, so there is no need to arrive extra early. Once you’re finished, grownups can head out and students will be cared for until it’s time to begin the school day. In other words, you do not need to linger in the parking lot wondering what exactly you’re supposed to do with your child at 7:18 AM. We’ve got them.

Help Us Make the Donuts Happen

Hundreds of pastries do not magically arrange themselves before sunrise, although we remain open to discovering that particular superpower. We’ll need volunteers to help us get everything ready the night before, welcome families, serve breakfast, keep things moving and clean up once our Blackhawks head off to class.
